Abstract：Comparative studies were conducted on the swollen culms at different defoliation treatments when zizania gall began to swelling with two water bamboo varieties. The results showed that dry weight and fresh weight had no notably difference at the early period of swollen gall development, and there were no markable influences on gall swelling after removing the leave.But afterwards the dry and fresh weight of swollen gall descended observably when all leave and sheath were cut.
