Abstract Cuiyu is a new early-middle maturing bitter gourd F_1 hybrid developed by crossing two inbred lines 0123 and 0219. The fruit is 30-35 cm in length, 10-13 cm in diameter, 1.0-1.5 cm in thickness of flesh, with dark green warty skin. Average fruit weight is 500-700 g. It has stronger resistance to Fusarium wilt and powdery mildew than Cuifei. It yields 37.5-45.0 t·hm~-2,and is suitable for cultivation in South China in spring and autumn.
