Abstract:Garlic(Allium sativum L.) is susceptible to virus during its annual vegetative
propagation and the pathogens accumulated in bulbs are transmitted to the next generations,resulting
in garlic virus disease.Virus infection will lead to garlic degeneration,and reduce the quality of
bulbs.Compared with the traditional detoxification metho ds,ultra-low temperature method has
many advantages,such as higher virus-free rate and easy operation,better genetic stability,higher
proliferation rate.Besides,it can be combined with germplasm cryopreservation.This article
mainly summarizes the principles of cryopreservation and detoxification of garlic germplasm,present
status in research,and existing problems.The article also prospects the research direction of using
cryopreservation to preserve garlic germplasm and the potential of applying cryotherapy for detoxification
of garlic germplasm.
