Effect of Applying Sulfur and Silicon Combination on Growth,Photosynthetic Characteristics and Quality of Garlic Seedling by Hydroponic Culture

This paper studied on the effect of applying sulfur-silicon combination on the growth,
photosynthetic characteristics and quality of garlic seedling by adopting the method of deep liquid flow hydroponics.
The results showed that this combination could improve the plant height,cauloid width and length of garlic
seedling,and also enhance the photosynthetic pigments content and photosynthetic parameter. The most prominent
effect was found in concentrations of 2 mmol·L-1 sulfur with 1.50 mmol·L-1 silicon. Suitable concentration of
sulfur and silicon combination was in favor of increasing the contents of allicin,soluble protein,soluble sugar
and VC. The best effect could be gained in the concentration of 2-3 mmol·L-1 sulfur combined with 0.75-1.50
mmol·L-1 silicon. In conclusion,the concentration of 2 mmol·L-1 sulfur combined with 0.75-1.50 mmol·L-1 silicon was the most beneficial for the growth and quality of garlic seedling by hydroponic culture.
