To understand the variation of glucosinolates composition in backcrossing lines derived
from inter-varietal crosses in pakchoi,the content and composition of glucosinolates were analyzed by high
performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)for savoy〔Brassica campestris L. ssp. chinensis(L.)Makino
var. rosularis Tsen et Lee〕cv.‘Shanghaixiaobaye’,tai-tsai〔Brassica campestris L. ssp. chinensis(L.)
Makino var. tai-tsai Hort〕cv.‘Pingdutaicai’,and 2 lines selected from F2 populations of 4 times backcrossing of
(‘Shanghaixiaobaye’בPingdutaicai’)with‘Shanghaixiaobaye’as the recurrent parent.The results
showed that each of 4 kinds of aliphatic and indole glucosinolate were detected in the leaf and petiole of 4 tested
materials.The total contents of aliphatic glucosinolate,indole glucosinolate and total glucosinolate in leaves were
higher than petioles,and also different with 4 tested materials.The contents of health-beneficial compounds
2-phenylethyl glucosinolate(NAS)and glucobrassicin(GBC)were higher in leaves of‘6-1’than both its
parents‘Shanghaixiaobaye’and‘Pingdutaicai’,indicating that inter-varietal crosses could be used in breeding
new pakchoi cultivars with improved glucosinolate composition.
