Studies on Histocytology of Potato Tuber Shape Development

Abstract:Tuber shape is one of the important agronomic characters of potato.Potato tuber shape has
confirmed at the early stage of tuber development.In order to study the internal morphological changes of long
and round tubers,this paper selected tubers formed in 4 different periods,including stem stalk hook period,
apical bulging period,early tuber formation period,and tuber formation period to make paraffin sections to
conduct histocytological observation.The result shows that the differences in cell layers of medullary tissue
during stem stalk hook period might be the main reason leading to long or round different tuber shapes.The
stem stalk hook period might be the key period causing differences in tuber shapes.
