Abstract Pepper virus disease is a main disease in the southern vegetable production base in
Guangdong and Hainan Provinces. It is necessary to detect the kinds of pathogeny,so as to provide
references for the prevention of virus diseases. In this study,we conducted molecular detection with
RT-PCR method on the samples of pepper virus diseases or suspected virus diseases from these 2
provinces. The results showed that the detection rate of viruses was 55.67% in Guangdong Province. The
main viruses were CMV( Cucumber mosaic virus) and PMMoV( Pepper mild mottle virus).Besides,
there were a few PVY( Potato virus Y),PVX( Potato virus X),and TYLCV( Tomato yellow leaf curl
virus) detected. In Hainan Province, virus detection rate was 44.67%.CMV and PMMoV were the
major viruses. There was also a small quantity of PVY. In the fields, the complex infection of CMV and
PMMoV was the crucial problem in pepper production in Guangdong and Hainan Provinces.
