Abstract Taking ‘Zhongnong 106’ as test material, this paper studied the effects of 24-epibrassinolide
(EBR)seed soaking on seeds germination under low temperature and substrate adding EBR on seedling
resistance to low temperature. The results showed that soaking seeds with 0.10 mg · L-1 EBR could significantly
improve the germination potential, germination rate, germination index, vigor index, number of lateral roots
and fresh weight of whole plant of cucumber seeds under low temperature.Addition of 0.10 mg · L-1 EBR in
substrate could significantly improve the quality of cucumber seedlings and strong seedling index under low
temperature stress;and increase chlorophyll content,photosynthetic rate,soluble protein content,proline
content in seedling leaves, autioxidant enzyme activities, and root system activity;and decrease the contents
of active oxygen and MDA,thereby to enhance seedling resistance to low temperature. In conclusion,0.10 mg ·
L-1 EBR could promote seed germination under low temperature and enhance cold stress tolerance of cucumber
seedlings.
