Abstract ‘Funong No.1’ is a new variety of vegetable jute released by ‘Taizi No.4’ jute after 60Co γ-ray treatment in a dosage of 219 Gy through several generations’selection. Its stem, petiole, stipule, calyces and capsule are all green. The leaves are single alternative and of long-ovate shape. The average length is 16.5 cm, and width is 7.8 cm. The leaf margins serrated and leaf base looks like a pair of teeth extending into tassel shape. After picking asparagus, the leaf height can be controlled around 130-160 cm and its branches numbers are about 15. The stem diameter is 1.60 cm. The growing speed is very slow in seedling stage, while it becomes rapid in middle and late stage. It takes 170-184 days from sowing to seed maturity and the spear leaf yield is 18.0-22.3 t·hm-2. The field cultivation survey indicates that‘Funong No.1’has stronger resistance to spots on jute anthracnose, blight and stem spot diseases than‘Cuilv’,‘Taizi No.4’ and ‘Kuanyechangguo’.
