Abstract The remarkable achievements on genetics and breeding of cabbage(Brassica oleracea L.)in China during‘The Eleventh Five-year Plan’have been made. A number of excellent germplasm resources have been introduced and innovated. The considerable progress has been achieved in disease resistance, stress tolerance and other conventional breeding techniques and biotechnology, such as molecular marker, microspore culture, genetic transformation. 58 new bred varieties with good commodity, strong disease resistance, and tress tolerance were applied and extended in cabbage production. It is summarized the research progress on the aspects of germplasm resources, new varieties of breeding, and biotechnology of cabbage in China. The problems existed and the prospects are also included.
