Abstract Ten pathogen collections of powdery mildew, which came from different grown
regions of Southern and Northern Xinjiang, were detected by standard system for identification of
powdery mildew. According to the internationally recognized melon differential standards for identifying
physiological races of powdery mildew,we confirmed that the disease was caused by Sphaerotheca fuliginea.
There were two races, race 1 and race 5.Race 1 was the dominant one in Northern Xinjiang,
and race 5 was in 2 regions of Southern Xinjiang.
