Studies on Using Maize Straw and Mushroom Residue to Replace Peat as Nursery Media for Tomato and Sweet Pepper Seedlings |
|
|
Abstract The maize straw compost, mushroom residue compost, peat and vermiculite were used to composite different complex media for tomato(Solanum lycopersicum L.)and sweet pepper(Capsicum annuum L.var. grossum Bailey)seedling.Comprehensive indexes such as seedling growth, seedling index, physiological activity, indicated that the media of mushroom residue compost+ peat+ vermiculite(1∶1∶1,V/V)had the best effect on tomato seedling, the next was the media of maize straw compost+ peat+vermiculite(1∶1∶1,V/V).The media of maize straw compost+vermiculite(2∶1,V/V)had the best effect on sweet pepper seedling, and the next was mushroom residue compost+peat+vermiculite(1∶1∶1,V/V).The results showed that mushroom residue compost and maize straw compost could improve the physical and chemical characteristics of complex media, promote tomato and sweet pepper seedling growth, and cultivate healthy seedlings with high quality.
