Abstract In order to find the cadmium(Cd)tolerant melon germplasm resources, this paper took the wild melon,thin-skinned melon and thick-skinned melon as testing material, and adopted pot culture method to study the effects of adding 0,50,100 mg · kg-1 cadmium solution on melons growth and differences of Cd contents in each plant organs. The results showed that with the increasing of Cd concentration, the plant growth vigor was decreased and above ground plant fresh weight and root system fresh weight decreased significantly. The order of Cd contents in melon organs was root>stem>leaf>fruit.Along with the increase of Cd treatment concentration,Cd contents in melon organs:root, stem, leaf and fruit were increased correspondingly. When the Cd concentration was 100 mg · kg-1,the Cd contents in root, stem and leaf of the wild melon were less than those in thin-skinned and thick-skinned melon, but the Cd content in fruit of wild melon was the largest. The Cd residue in soil of 3 melon types were ranged from 35.000-80.000 mg · kg-1,which were far beyond the national Third Grade Soil Standard setting bounds to Cd soil content. The wild melon and thick-skinned melon had good Cd tolerance. The wild melon has strong Cd removal ability. The tested thin-skinned melon was sensitive to Cd.
