Abstract The content of common bean pod wall fiber(PWF)can directly affect the quality of pod beans. In order to investigate the differences in PWF content of bean germplasm resources, this study adopted pretreatment with α-amylase and neutral detergent method to determine the content of pod wall fibers in 250 common bean germplasms during pod green ripening stage. The results showed that the PWF content of 250 common bean germplasms ranged from 12.5%-38.1%.Among them, the germplasm with the highest PWF content was‘CIAT blue’,and the lowest was‘rolled eyes’.There were bigger variation existed in PWF content of different common bean germplasm resources.Taking SPSS clustering analysis, this study divided 250 copies of kidney bean germplasms into 3 groups according to their PWF contents:10 copies had high content(31.1%-38.1%);53 copies had medium content(22.3%-29.9%);187 copies had low content (12.5%-22.2%).Those common bean germplasms with high PWF content and medium PWF content are not suitable for vegetable pods, while common bean germplasms with low PWF content have better quality and can be used as vegetable pods.
