Abstract Taking‘Beinong No.1’tomato(Lylopersicon esculentum Mill.)as material, the effects of different substrates as mushroom dregs, potent humus, former defoliation, fresh defoliation and nature soil on tomato seedling growth were studied. The results showed that the potent humus and mushroom dregs and former defoliation had significantly better effects on tomato seedling rate, plant height, stem diameter, root length, single dry and fresh stem weight,root/shoot ratio,stem/leaf ratio, fresh weight/dry weight ratio and leaves growth than the fresh defoliation and nature soil.Nature soil had better effect on plant height, stem diameter and leaves growth than the fresh defoliation. While the former defoliation had the characteristics of fine substrate for seedling.
