Abstract Twenty pesticide residues in seven kinds of vegetables at wholesale markets in Cixi were investigated.The results indicated that the pesticide residues showed seasonal changes as higher in early year and lower in late year.The excessive rates of legume,fruit,stalk and leafy vegetables were higher than that of other vegetables.Pesticide residues of vegetables shipped from outside Zhejiang were lower than those produced locally.The safety indexes of vegetable quality were lower than 1 in the four quarters,and there was no safety risk.Acephate,fenvalerate,triazophos and omethoate were the primary factors affecting the safety of vegetables quality in Cixi.
