  Soft rot in Allium chinense G.Don is caused by Erwinia carotovora subsp.carotovora.The preliminary infection sources are diseased bulb and pathogen contained soil.The bacteria infect host plant through wound and then cause the tissue rot,even death.Artificial inoculation results showed that the bacteria could infect 14 plant species belonging to 7 families.This disease could be effectively controlled by using 24 % Streptomycin,25 % Bismerthiazol and 45 % Ambam at the initial infection stage.

  A new variety of Chinese cabbage Jingqiu No.65 was bred by crossing two self-incompatible lines 85(2-289)and Qinda.It can be harvested in 65-70 days after sowing.The average head weight is about 3.6 kg.Its yield is about 97.5-112.5 t·hm-2.It is resistant to virus,black rot,and mid-resistant to downy mildew.It has been extended to Beijing,Shaanxi,Ningxia,Shandong,Shanxi and Xinjiang.

  Exigua No.12 is a new red flesh seedless watermelon F1 hybrid developed by crossing tetraploid inbred line W4-48-3 with diploid inbred line W2-38-42-1.It is mid-maturity and takes 35 days from flowering to maturity.The fruit is black green rind,bright red flesh,round with 11 %-12 % of center sugar content,the rind is about 1.2 cm thick.Average fruit weight is 5-7 kg.The yield is about 37.5 t·hm-2.It is suitable for cultivation in Hubei.
