    The experiment was conducted to determine the irrigation index for tomato over-summer cultivation in greenhouse. Four treatments were conducted in terms of the substrate water content. The botanical characteristics, yield,quality and water efficiency of tomato were investigated.The results showed that 35 %-40 % was the optimum substrate water content for tomato over-summer cultivation in greenhouse.

    The combining ability of early-yield and total-yield character of cucumber were analyzed by using six inbred lines of cucumber cultivated in open field. The results showed that the two characters were mainly controlled by additive genes and their inheritances fit in dominant-additive model mainly. The general combining ability(GCA)variance of early-yield occupied 91.92 % of the whole genotype variance.     Jinyu No.5 is a new cucumber F 1 hybrid developed by crossing A-8 with Jin3105. It is early maturity, high resistant to downy mildew, powdery mildew and fusarium wilt.     Jinhong No.4 is a new carrot F 1 hybrid. The female parent 10421 is a petaloid male sterility line, and the male parent 3030 is a inbred line. The root is long cylinder shaped, 17.5-18.5 cm in length, 5.0-5.5 cm in diameter, with orange color. Average root weight is 260-270 g. The growing period is 120 days. The yield is 67.5-82.5 t·hm -2 . It is resistant to black rot and is suitable to be consumed both in fresh and processing, and be cultivated in summer in North China.
