  Fruit texture crisp has deep relations with flesh cell structure, fiber and pectin contents by analysing these indexes of cucumber varieties with different texture. The fruits are more crisp and have better texture, which have thinner epidermis, quicker volume expanding rate of thin-wall cells,more pulp cells with round or nearly round shape. With higher fiber, lower pectin contents the fruits are more stiff.

  Eight inbred lines of green bitter gourd were divided into two groups and 15 crosses were made, heterosis of node of 1st female flower and number of female flowers at earlier stage were investigated.   The effects of silicon on the growth and active oxygen scavenging system of cucumber seedlings were studied in a solution culture system. The results showed that the application of 1.7 mmol · L-1 Si increased plant growth, chlorophyll content, AsA content,and the activities of SOD,POD and CAT,and decreased MDA content.

  Physical and chemical properties of different mixed substrate and its effect on wasabi were studied. The results indicated that the physical and chemical properties of the substrate composed of reed, Vemiculite, sand (1:2: 1) was the best one. It increased contents of chlorophyll and root activities, improved the growth and the swelling of wasabi rhizome, decreased the growing period of wasabi, it also avoided the incidence of diseases and insects in high temperature season and increased yield.
