Investigation of Different Types of Male Sterility and Application of Dominant Male Sterility in Cabbage

Several types of male sterility (MS) in cabbage were investigated. The results i ndicated that using male sterility in 81132 controlled by a recessive gene only 50% male sterile plants can be achieved. Nigra cytoplasmic male sterili t y in CMSn78091 is associated with small nectar glands and un-fully opened flowe rs. Study on the Optimum Fermentative Condition of Pickling Chinese Cabbage

The summer Chinese Cabbage cultivar -‘Chun Xiawang ’ was used in the experiment with orthogonal design. The effect and their optimal concentration of sodium b e nzoate (A)，potassium sorbate (B)，sodium sulfite (C) on the storage of watermel on were studied by single factor experiments and cross experiments. And the cha r acteristics of antifreezing，anti-high-temperature of watermelon preservative were discussed. The development of Spodoptera exigua (beta armyworm) larvae has to go through 5 instars. They keep together to damage hosts until 3rd instar，then disperse and the 4th and 5th instar larvae make the most damage. The occurring peak of S.exigua is in August and September，feeding on many kinds of plants but mainly on vegetables and bean. Spraying 32%“Decisdan” and“Cascade” can get efficient control of the pest.

A New Cucumber F1 Hybrid-‘Xianghuanggua No.4’
Wang Anle;Zhu Haiquan;Tang Shujiang
Xianghuanggua No.4 is a new F1 hybrid by erossing l ine L88-9 with T5-8. It grows vigorously with high resistant to downy mildew， virus and Fusarium wilt. It takes only 45-50 days from sowing to first harves ting. It yields 36 t·hm-2, 39% higher than that of‘Jiny an N o.7’. Average fruit weight is about 297g. Fruits are dark green，swe et and dcrispy with high marketable percentage. The fruit neck is about 3.6cm with is about 1/8 of fruit length.
