4 Study on the Chilling Tolerance of Rootstocks and Grafting Seedlings of Eggplant

The chilling tolerance of five wild eggplant and six cultivars were tested, three wild eggplants with much higher chilling tolerance were selected and used as rootstocks of eggplant. The results indicated that the grafted seedlings had much higher chilling tolerance than the non-grafted one. Protective enzymes activities such as SOD,POD and CAT in grafted seedlings increased rapidly than those in non-grafted one under low temperature stress.

The fresh and dry weight of plant, root, stem, leaf and curd, leaf area, net assimilating rate ( NAR) during cauliflower growth and development increased gradually, the increase extent and NAR were highest at curd formation stage. The 5 leaves developed at seedling stage played main role in seedling development, 7th to 22nd leaves developed at leaves development stage played important role in leaf fascicle and curd development. Cytoplasmic male sterility line of leaf mustard ( Brassica juncea L. ) , which received from Wisconsin University, U. S. A. , was crossed with eight good varieties of leaf mustard which were selected by Chiang Mai University. Then F1 crosses were backcrossed with the male parents for four generations ( BC4 ). Kebao is a newly developed insecticide mixture composed of imidacloprid and abamectin. Xiyuan No. 8 is a new cabbage F1 hybrid developed by crossing self-incompatible line 9617 with self-incompatible line 9670. The two parent lines were all selected from the progenies of abroad cabbage varieties. The plant is early mature and is tolerant to heat. It is vigorous under 32 CC temperature and is resistant to virus and black rot, and is tolerant to club root. The average yield is 45 t· hm-2. It is suitable to be cultivated in the south of China.
